I don’t have much interest in the general proportions of a mid-engine car.

This is why the old adage, “never judge a book by its cover” exists.

Ya know what. I’ll change it to “don’t like proportions of a mid-engine car” to carry my point across better.

Welp, you were right about one thing - not gonna be a popular opinion.

Approximately.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. I’ve felt this way for a looooong time. About the only one that looks good in my eyes is the Ferrari 288GTO. The slope of the back seems relatively balanced with the rest of the car. The 308GTB comes close, but the nose is a little too long in relation to the tail.
Many other Ferraris (360, 430, Enzo) have too much in front of the front wheel and too little behind the rear, giving the impression that they’re going to tip over forward. The Ford GT40 suffers from the same problem.
Only when they stretched the back out a bit did the proportions become a bit more pleasant.
On a Pagani there’s just too much of the lower back of the car without anything above to balance it out.
I love the BMW M1, but the back end is just a little too thick, the opposite problem of any Pagani.
And then there’s the XJS. Yes, I know it’s not mid-engined, but it was supposed to be and that’s why it has those flying buttresses.
And every Koenigsegg? Seriously weird proportions.
I love the McLaren F1 for the engineering behind it, but it just seems a bit truncated. There didn’t need to be any more car back there so they didn’t put it there, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t look unbalanced, much like a Pagani.
Yeah, you’ll probably be crucified for this post, but I support you. Trying to view these kinds of things objectively is a bit of a challenge; I’ve tried, but I think emotions will run high on this one.

Hi, mid-engine here, just passing by, decimating the competition and getting Group B banned. Nothing to see here, move along.

The Renault Clio Sport V6 24V is MR, but is that also a design you don’t have an interest in?
I do agree some brands kind of mail it in on the back end of their MR cars. But to be fair, the engine has to be designed around, and thats not easy to do.
